Step 01 · Before the labs
We use this to apply the right research context to your labs.
Demographics
Fields marked * are required.
We use age to apply the correct reference ranges — postmenopausal, perimenopausal, and younger women have different research thresholds for some iron markers.
This tool's corpus is built on research about women's iron health. If you're on gender-affirming hormone therapy, tell us which kind so we can route you correctly.
Life stage*
We apply different research thresholds for each life stage. Pregnancy thresholds are trimester-specific. Postpartum thresholds shift over the first six months. Perimenopausal and postmenopausal thresholds are higher than premenopausal thresholds.
We'll apply the research thresholds specific to your trimester.
Dietary context*
Iron absorption differs meaningfully between animal-based and plant-based iron sources, and the research on plant-forward iron status has some distinct patterns.
Recent illness
Colds, flu, infection, surgery, or a flare of a chronic condition all count. Inflammation raises ferritin in your blood — if you've been sick recently, your ferritin may read higher than your true iron stores.
Iron supplementation
Oral iron raises ferritin measurably within a couple of weeks. If you're currently or were recently supplementing, we flag your ferritin as possibly elevated. The research read gets a recalibration flag instead of full confidence.
